Bio:

Dr. Sasha Garver currently performs full-time with the Macau Orchestra (SAR China) as second flute/solo piccolo. Sasha has also performed with Emerald City Opera, Boulder Bach Festival, Mahler Festival Orchestra and the Richmond Symphony. Previously she taught applied flute and chamber music at Regis University and was on the faculty of Colorado Christian University and the Rocky Mountain Center for Musical Arts. She has also been on the faculties of Boulder Arts Academy, and University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory Department.

Sasha is involved in performance and commission of new music and has participated in the Cincinnati Music X festival, performing works under the direction of composers Louis Andriessen, Chen Yi, Steve Reich, Michael Fiday and others. In July 2009 Sasha gave the Macau premiere of Loin d'ici for flute and piano (NFA Young Artist 2005 Competition commissioned piece) with noted Macanese composer Bun-ching Lam as part of the Macao Orchestra's Chinese Music Series. Additionally, Sasha and her husband are active in commissioning new works for flute and bassoon such as Two Inventions by Sean Okpebholo (NKU Composition Professor) and Pajarillo con Catira by Venezuelan flutist Javier Montilla.

Dr. Garver is a regular columnist on pedagogy for Flute Focus International Flute Magazine (NZ) and has given lectures on topics ranging from pedagogy, Suzuki and performance practice at various flute gatherings and the Suzuki Association of the America’s International Conference. She has certification in Suzuki Flute Books 1-8, Practicum, and Orff-Schulwerk level 1. Dr. Garver is President of the Suzuki Association of Colorado, co-chair of the Suzuki Association of Hong Kong, Macau and China, and is widely recognized for her expertise in the Suzuki Flute method, having won a national award in 2006 for her dissertation on the subject. Sasha has been faculty at Santa Fe Suzuki Institute, Peaks to Plains Suzuki Institute and Suzuki Association of Colorado's Winter Workshop.

Sasha holds her Doctorate in Flute Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado where she studied with Alexa Still. She received her Masters degree in flute performance from The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where she studied with Bradley Garner, Randolph Bowman, and piccolo with Jack Wellbaum. She received two Bachelor of Music degrees in flute and voice from the University of Colorado where she studied with Alexa Still, flute and Catherine Kasch, soprano.
