13 July 2008: Lecture "The Importance of the Composer's Intentions According to Dipert's Hierarchy: The Six Stolen Bassoon Sonatas of Francois Devienne," at the Conference of the International Society for the Promotion and Research of Wind Music in Echternach, Luxembourg.

16 -18 May 2008: Pinchas Zukerman performs and conducts a program including the Beethoven Violin Concerto.

8 - 11 May 2008: Massenet's opera Werther at the Le French Festival, under the baton of exciting young conductor Jakub Hrusa, with Denyse Graves and Warren Mok. The China Daily News said the bassoon section was "world-class."

Short Bio

Dr. Schwalje is the full-time second bassoonist and contrabassonist of the Macau Orchestra. He teaches at the Macau Conservatory, and is also on the faculty of Regis University. Adam has previously served on the faculties of the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) Preparatory Department. He performs regularly throughout Asia, and is also an active chamber musician and soloist. He has performed with the Colorado Ballet, the Colorado Music Festival, Richmond Symphony (IN), Boulder Philharmonic, Aspen Festival Orchestra, and others.

Adam is intensely interested in research into various aspects of music education in general, including bassoon pedagogy and reeds in particular. His latest completed project, the orchestral excerpts website bassoonexcerpts.info, made its debut on 22 September 2008. His lecture on Devienne and the aesthetic philosophy of Randall Dipert was well-received at the 2008 Conference of the International Society for the Promotion and Research of Wind Music in Luxembourg. His ear-training software "Building Ears" was selected for a poster session at the Association for Technology in Music Instruction conference in November, 2007. He has also been published in the IDRS Journal. Adam has studied with William Winstead, Dr. Yoshiyuki Ishikawa, Kim Walker, Per Hannevold, and others.
